第11回 Beyond AI 研究推進機構サイエンスカフェ動画を公開 The 11th Institute for AI and Beyond Science Café Video is now available.

Beyond AI 研究推進機構サイエンスカフェは、基礎研究（中長期研究）の研究リーダーとモデレーターとの対談の形式により、一般の方の質問に答えながら、研究内容の社会発信を試みます。研究リーダーのそれぞれの研究が、AIを通して、どのように進展してゆくのか、また、その進展の向こう側で、その研究の成果が社会とどのような関わりを持つかなどについて毎回テーマを設定して、発信してまいります。

第11回 Beyond AI 研究推進機構サイエンスカフェは、研究領域「物理とAIの融合」において、「生体ゆらぎに学ぶ超低消費電力を実現する次世代AIデバイス」をテーマに研究を進める田畑仁教授（東京大学工学系研究科）をお迎えしました。『脳のゆらぎを模倣した新しい省エネAI デバイスの開発』をテーマに田畑先生がAI研究やその応用・未来を語っています。

テーマ：脳のゆらぎを模倣した新しい省エネAI デバイスの開発

The Institute for AI and Beyond Science Café is a video series organized by the Institute for AI and Beyond. Various topics related to research are widely disseminated to society in the form of conversations between research leaders of basic research (medium- to long-term research) and a moderator. Each event will have a different theme, such as how AI will advance the research of each speaker and how the results from that research will be relevant to society in the future.

In the 11th Institute for AI and Beyond Science Café, we were glad to welcome Prof. Hitoshi TABATA of Graduate School of Engineering of the University of Tokyo, who is conducting research on Next-generation AI Devices Learned from Biological Fluctuations for Realizing Ultra-low Electric Power Consumption. Prof. Tabata talked with moderator about AI research, its applications, and its future.

現在我々が恩恵を受けているAIやIoT、ビッグデータなどの利用には莫大な電力が使われており、このままでは近い将来、消費電力の増加が深刻な問題になると予測されています。
そこで田畑先生は、脳が持つ「生体ゆらぎ」に注目し、わずかな電力で動作するまったく新しいAIデバイスの開発に挑戦しています。
なぜ私たちの脳は、莫大な電力なしに動作できるのか？そのヒントは、これまで厄介者と思われていた環境ノイズ（ゆらぎ）にあります。逆転の発想で挑む、次世代AIデバイスの研究開発について紹介します。
