Exploring the boundary between brain intelligence and artificial Intelligence: What is needed to realize "Beyond AI"?

2月17日（金）、第3回 Beyond AI 研究推進機構 国際シンポジウムを本郷キャンパスにて開催いたします。
今回のシンポジウムのテーマは、脳知能と人工知能の境界を探る：”Beyond AI”の実現には何が必要か？です。当日は、藤井 輝夫 東京大学 総長、宮川 潤一 ソフトバンク株式会社 代表取締役 社長執行役員 兼 CEOの開会挨拶の後、4名の海外からの演者とBeyond AI 研究推進機構の研究者2名による英語での特別講演及び、ゲストに茂木健一郎氏及び、新井紀子氏をお迎えしてのパネルディスカッション（日本語）を行います。

■概要
近年、脳と人工知能の研究が著しい進歩を見せている。脳と人工知能という異なる二つの知能は、どのような点が似て、また異なるのか。そして、両者を組み合わせることで何が実現できるのか。脳と人工知能の融合は現在の人工知能を超える”Beyond AI”を生み出す可能性を秘める一方で、倫理面をはじめ乗り越えるべき課題も少なくない。本シンポジウムでは脳研究と人工知能研究の現在と未来、そしてさらなるブレークスルーとなる“Beyond AI”実現のために何が必要かを討論し、国際社会に発信する。

※パネリストの一人、板津木綿子教授が急遽不参加となりました。代わりに東京大学 先端科学技術研究センターの稲見 昌彦教授が参加されます。

The 3rd International Symposium of the Institute for AI and Beyond of the University of Tokyo will be held on Friday, 17 February 2023 on Hongo Campus of the University.

The theme of the 3rd symposium : Exploring the boundary between brain intelligence and artificial intelligence: What is needed to realize "Beyond AI" ?
After opening remarks by Professor Teruo Fujii (President, The University of Tokyo) and Mr. Junichi Miyakawa (President & CEO, SoftBank Corp.), special lecture in English given by distinguished speakers including four researchers from overseas and researchers of the Institute for AI and Beyond, as well as a panel discussion in Japanese are scheduled to be held. In the panel discussion, Dr. Kenichiro Mogi and Dr. Noriko Arai will be invited as guest panelists to discuss with researchers of the Institute on the theme.

■Overview
Recent research on the brain and artificial intelligence has shown remarkable progress. What are the similarities and differences between the two different types of intelligence? And what can be achieved by combining these two? While the fusion of the brain and artificial intelligence has the potential to create the "Beyond AI" field that surpasses current biological and artificial intelligence, there are many challenges that need to be overcome, including ethical issues. In this symposium, we will discuss the present and future of brain and artificial intelligence research and ask what is needed to realize "Beyond AI".

2月12日（土）13時～16時（JST）開催予定の第2回 Beyond AI 研究推進機構 国際シンポジウムのプログラムが決定いたしました。
昨年に続き、藤井 輝夫先生（東京大学総長）ｘ宮川 潤一氏（ソフトバンク株式会社 代表取締役 社長執行役員兼 CEO）の特別対談を開催いたします。また、海外から2名、京都大学から1名の専門家をゲストスピーカーとして招待し、テーマ：Ten years since the breakthrough in Deep Learning. Now looking to the Futureを主題として、Beyond AI 研究推進機構の研究者と意見交換を行います。ぜひ、ご期待ください。

“Ten years since the breakthrough in Deep Learning. Now looking to the Future”

東京大学Beyond AI 研究推進機構の発足から2年。昨年に続いて国際シンポジウムを開催し、Beyond AI研究推進機構がAI の未来において果たせる様々な役割を考察します。
今年は、深層学習（ディープ・ラーニング）がAIにもたらしたブレークスルーから十周年にあたります。この節目の年に、シンポジウムでは「Ten years since the breakthrough in Deep Learning. Now looking to the Future」と題して、深層学習がわれわれ人間や身の回りの社会にどのように影響を与えるのか、量子や宇宙などの先端科学をどう変えていくのか、２つの大きな視点からこの分野の最先端研究を進める国内外の専門家とBeyond AI 研究推進機構の研究者が意見交換を行います。
深層学習ブレークスルーから10年、社会全体に大きなインパクトを与えた深層学習の現在と未来、深層学習と社会や文化、科学との関わりについて討論し、国際社会に発信します。

Two years have passed since the launch of the University of Tokyo’s Institute for AI and Beyond. Following on from last year, we will be hosting an International Symposium to examine the various roles that the Institute for AI and Beyond can play in the future of AI.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the breakthrough that deep learning has brought to AI.
On this milestone year, a symposium entitled “Ten years since the breakthrough in Deep Learning. Now looking to the Future”, will bring experts from domestic and overseas and the Institute for AI and Beyond together to discuss the following two perspectives: how deep learning will affect in human and society, and how it will change the advanced science such as quantum and astrophysics.
Ten years after the breakthrough of deep learning, we will discuss and communicate to the international society, the present and future of deep learning, which has had a great impact on society, and the relationship between deep learning and society, culture, as well as science.

発足記念シンポジウム “Living with AI, Going Beyond AI”を開催いたします。

Beyond AI研究推進機構の発足後、最初のシンポジウムとなる今回は、「より「賢い」人工知能とは何か、AIの根本や社会へのインパクトを問う」（AIの社会における意義と価値についての議論）を主題とし、「我々は自分達よりも「賢い」AIを開発したいのだろうか？ 私たちは、AIをどのように利用していくのか。 AIが「賢い」「頭がいい」とはどういう意味なのだろうか？究極的には、新しいAIを開発する目的は何なのか？」について、分野横断的な観点でAIの現在と未来にフォーカスして、Beyond AI研究推進機構が今後、AI の未来について果たせる様々な役割について探求します。

The Institute for AI and Beyond will launch its inaugural symposium, entitled “Living with AI, Going Beyond AI.”

The symposium will explore the significance and impact of AI on society by asking such questions as meaning of “smarter” AI. It features distinguished guests, with different professional and academic backgrounds, who will discuss the future as well as the present of AI from a cross-interdisciplinary perspective.
